40th Anniversary Actions and Events

Gray Panthers networks are where the action is! To celebrate four decades of achievement and to reaffirm our commitment to the future, Gray Panthers around the country have planned a year of heightened activism and special events. Join with us as we raise our voices, growl and prowl for Gray Panther issues and progressive causes.

Community Birthday Party
On August 3rd the Twin Cities Gray Panthers, an intergenerational organization working for peace and social and economic justice, will be hosting a Community Birthday Party from 5:30 to 7:30 at the Rondo Library in St. Paul. The party is a part of our 40th anniversary activities and is in honor of the birth day of Maggie Kuhn, who was the founder of the Gray Panthers.  The party will include lively discussion and a birthday cake.  The party will celebrate everyone's birthday, recognize that we all are aging from the time we are born, identify positive aspects of aging and raise awareness of ageism which is a root cause of the pervasive negative attitudes about aging in our society.

40th Birthday Gala
A birthday party and honor social justice activists was held on April 17 in Washington, DC
. The dinner gala was also a party modeled after the Twin Cities "The Best Age Is the Age You Are"  Community Birthday Parties.

Reverting back to the issue it is most known for, Sally Brown, immediate past Chair of the Gray Panthers National Board, gave a speech about ageism, in which she stated, "We should be really proud of the ages we are and know that at any age we can contribute significantly to the world and lead productive, fulfilling lives."

Street Theater Action for Social Justice
A protest action was also held on April 17, in Washington, DC, near the White House.

Nationwide Actions for Social Justice
Support Networks across the country as they raise their voices about Gray Panther issues and progressive causes. April 17, 2010 through April 16, 2011

Watch also for our local 40th Anniversary events.
